New London Connecticut Helping in the fight to cure Cancer |
|
Please read this message and if you can help, please do. It will cost you very little, if anything at all to take part. |
One in four of us will at some time suffer from cancer. The high mortality rate, the suffering experienced by patients from the side effects of existing treatments, and the high costs of treatment all contribute to making cancer a priority for drug research. Therefore please consider donating the idle time of your PC to help in the search for a cure. Full details of the cancer research initiative can be found on the United Devices web site who run the program. The reality is your PC processor probably spends more time in IDLE mode than it does in performing functions for you. Even when you are working on your PC, maybe compiling a program or writing a document you will find that the CPU is probably running at a lot less than 50%. As such, you have spare capacity that you can donate to the United Devices Grid to help search for a cure to cancer. The way it works is you download the software, select the research project you are interested in (may we suggest the Cancer project, there are others too). The application then installs itself and runs at LOW priority on your PC. If you are doing anything (e.g. creating your document, writing a program, surfing the internet etc) you get PRIORITY. The spare capacity of your CPU is then given to the research project. It really is that easy. Read the Frequently Asked Questions page if you have any questions.
To join you must first download the
UD software.... Click here or on the following image....
Once you have downloaded and registered the software you are then part of the program. However, you can additionally join or create a team with your friends, co-workers or other group. If you live or work in New London you are invited to join the New London Connecticut Team (click on the link). As of December 2003 some residents of New London in the team have already dedicated more than 100 CPU days (thats more than 2,400 CPU hours) to the fight against cancer, please join us. Please note .... you do not need to join a team .... the key item is being part of the program, you are in the program after you download the software and register your PC. Thank you for your time. |

Quote:From Intel's point of view, the project makes excellent use of the company's new Pentium 4 processors, which have more power than is required to run most business desktop applications anyway. The client application is optimized for Pentium processors, and specifically the P4, Intel says, but will run on any Windows platform. Because it kicks in only during the idle loop of the processor, it should not cause noticeable degradation of performance even if left to run continuously. Click to read full story.
